Sustainability On Screen: A Research Database

At the Sustainable Entertainment Alliance, we're eager to explore and understand the creative and commercial opportunities around stories that engage with sustainability in mainstream entertainment.

That's why we partnered with USC Public Exchange and the Norman Lear Center's Media Impact Project (MIP) to explore sustainability storytelling by researching evidence and trends around audience demand, sustainability business levers, and the social and economic impacts of climate-related narratives.

This resulted in a database compiling literature from the past 3-5 years, originating mainly in the US and Europe. These resources may be used to track social and commercial analyses, identify research gaps, and ultimately examine the business implications of accurately depicting climate and sustainability stories on screen. You can explore topics such as Business Rewards, Business Risks, Audience Insights, Industry Insights, and Effects/Impact on Audiences.

This is a living document! If you’d like to submit additional literature that we haven’t included in the current version of the Airtable, please reach out to info@sustainableentertainmentalliance.org with your recommendation.
